Company Feature

The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) is proud to announce that the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) has ranked ELC as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality,” having achieved a perfect score of 100 percent for HRC’s 2019 Corporate Equality Index for a third consecutive year. This year’s perfect score of 100% on the Corporate Equality Index marks the tenth time ELC has accomplished this feat in the 17 years HRC has been conducting its surveys.

Corporate Equality Index

The Corporate Equality Index is the most distinguished benchmarking report in the U.S. for LGBTQ-related corporate policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community. This year’s updated criteria also included that participants offer parity between different- and same-sex spouses, have coverage available for domestic partners of enrollees and remove transgender exclusions from all benefits plans.

“The need to respect and embrace individual differences feels more urgent now than ever, and we are honored to achieve a 100 percent ranking on the Corporate Equality Index for a third consecutive year,” said Marilu Marshall, Senior Vice President, Executive Management, Chief Inclusion & Diversity Officer. “Inclusion and diversity are woven into the fabric of our organization, and this achievement reflects our commitment to driving real progress by ensuring our workplace celebrates and values the diversity and individuality of every employee.”

This announcement follows similar recognition of ELC’s policies and practices by numerous organizations including Forbes’ “Best Employers for Diversity 2019,” and two Women’s Choice Awards for “Best Company for Women” and “Best Company for Multicultural Women.” For a second consecutive year, ELC was also named to Bloomberg’s 2019 Gender-Equality Index which measures what companies do to drive transparency and advance gender equality within their respective companies and communities. Around the world, ELC has also been recognized as an employer of choice with recent achievements including Indeed’s “Top-Rated Workplaces: The 50 Best” list, and Fortune magazine’s “50 Best Places to Work in The Fortune 500” in China, the United Arab Emirates, Mexico and the U.K. & Ireland.

The Estée Lauder Companies is a longtime pioneer of LGBTQ equality and has most recently joined the Business Coalition for the Equality Act, a group of over 160 businesses that support HRC in its efforts to drive legislation in Congress, which would guarantee comprehensive, non-discriminatory protections for LGBTQ people under U.S. civil rights laws.
