Delivering Positive Impact

As a global company, we have many opportunities for meaningful engagement with social impact causes that matter to our employees, customers and partners. In places where we work, source or sell our products, we dedicate resources to address issues focused around three pillars: health, education and the environment. We make financial, product, matching and in-kind donations across our company, our brands and through The Estée Lauder Companies Charitable Foundation (ELCCF).

In addition, in 2020 we accelerated our efforts to make racial equity a priority by announcing a series of commitments across our business, focusing on U.S. operations. The company, its brands and the Lauder family pledged to give, including through The Estée Lauder Companies Charitable Foundation and the Company’s matching of employee gifts, a total of $10 million over three years to support racial and social justice and to continue to support greater access to education through groups such as NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc., Equal Justice Initiative and The Young Women’s Leadership Schools (TYWLS), a program of the Student Leadership Network. The Estée Lauder Companies donated $5 million in Summer 2020 and will donate an additional $5 million over the following two years. This pledge includes and builds upon the company’s $1 million pledge to support racial and social justice organizations previously communicated to our employees. To learn about these commitments, read the letter from our Executive Chairman and President and CEO.

Jo Malone London

Mission:

Jo Malone London is committed to supporting mental health and the profoundly restorative effect that nature has for those living with painful personal challenges.

Overview:

The brand’s support of mental health began in 2012. It now supports eleven charitable partners across the U.K who provide services across all stages and aspects of mental health; awareness, prevention, treatment and support.

To date the brand has supported the creation of seven charity gardens for its partners, providing communities with better access to nature, specifically concentrating efforts in urban areas where gardens may be scarce. The maintenance and care of these gardens reduce the mental health problems of those attending and form part of a therapeutic program and providing a sanctuary for many.

Although much of Jo Malone London’s commitment is financial, they also offer resources to their chosen charities. Staff volunteer across many of the programs helping in the gardens (each year staff donate approximately 1400 hours volunteering in the UK) and provide advice and consultancy to all of their partners, ensuring that they are given support across communications, event planning and increasing the awareness around their initiatives.

The Estée Lauder Companies Charitable Foundation's Girls' Education Initiative

Objective:

To enhance girls’ access to quality education– particularly adolescent girls and young women –and providing the skills they need to bring about lasting change for themselves and their communities, while giving them the support to grow into leadership roles as women.

Why Girls’ Education?:

Educating a girl creates ripple effects that can benefit an entire community. Evidence increasingly demonstrates that more educated women tend to be healthier, participate more in the formal labor market, earn more income, and contribute to increases in economic growth. Educating girls and women leads to increased health and educational attainment across generations. Nevertheless, gaps still remain.1 As of 2019, only 50% of countries had reached gender parity in lower secondary school education enrollment and only 25% in upper secondary school.2 Additionally, conflict and disasters further exasperate gender disparity in education, with the likelihood of girls not attending school in conflict-affected countries being 2.5 times more compared to girls in other areas.3

Overview:

To help address this global need, The Estée Lauder Companies Charitable Foundation (ELCCF) launched programming in fiscal year 2016, providing corporate funds and resources to support education programs in more than 13 countries. Today, ELCCF’s Girls’ Education Initiative supports organizations working to enhance girls’ access to quality education – particularly girls age 12-18 years old - and providing the skills they need to bring about lasting change for themselves and their communities, while giving them the support needed to grow into leadership roles as women.

The Initiative takes a comprehensive approach and supports groups that focus not only on education but also health, counseling, tutoring, extracurricular activities, social and family support, life-skills training, entrepreneurial skills-building and mentorship. Some of this support includes a focus on underserved communities and at-risk populations. The program also seeks to reach boys alongside girls, recognizing that to change social norms and ensure equitable outcomes for girls, boys must also be reached.

The Company remains committed to expanding and deepening ELCCF’s Initiative for Girls’ Education over time, to provide more young women with the life and leadership skills necessary to help them reach their full potential.

Origins Green The Planet™

Mission:

Since inception, Origins has been committed to the well-being of your skin and our planet. We believe it’s our responsibility to give back to nature and we endeavor to make choices that help reduce our impact on the planet. For over a decade, we’ve been on a mission to Green The Planet™, partnering with various non-profit organizations to not only help restore and conserve ecosystems, but also help support disadvantaged communities through tree planting initiatives.

Overview:

At Origins, we believe every tree has the power to change the future of our planet for the better.

We partner with various non-profit organizations to aid reforestation and conservation projects through tree-planting initiatives to help restore ecosystems, offset carbon emissions, combat climate change and more.

Today, more than ever, we recognize the disproportionate impact that environmental degradation and global warming have on disadvantaged communities and communities of color. We recognize that it is not enough to strive for environmental quality—we must strive for human equality. Our Green The Planet mission is our commitment to trigger real, meaningful change for the lives of present and generations to come.
