The Estée Lauder Companies Advances in CDP Climate Rankings

ELC joins top 4% of climate-ready businesses

Company Feature

The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) has made progress in CDP’s Climate rankings for 2019, receiving an “A-” score for its environmental transparency and efforts to address climate change. This notable ranking is a testament to the company’s sustainability efforts and commitment to environmental transparency.

CDP is an environmental non-profit that releases questionnaires each year for companies to disclose their environmental impact. ELC’s A-score on the 2019 Climate Change questionnaire reflects a notable improvement from last year’s B rating. This progress can be attributed to the tireless work of teams across the company to accelerate sustainability initiatives and performance.

The score also provides third-party recognition of ELC’s efforts to address climate change from a globally recognized authority, and places ELC among the leading environmentally sustainable companies: only 4% of respondents received an A- score or above for 2019 (with over 8,300 companies participating).

“As a global company, employer and corporate citizen committed to reducing its carbon footprint, we are proud to receive an A- score on CDP’s 2019 Climate questionnaire,” said Nancy Mahon, Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability at The Estée Lauder Companies. “We are thankful to our employees, the agents of change who make this kind of sustainable progress possible across our organization.”

Committed to transparency around environmental issues, ELC has responded to the CDP Climate Change questionnaire for the past 10 years. ELC anticipates that future submissions will reflect progress as the company continues to support efforts to mitigate climate change. Recent investments include the execution of the company’s largest renewable energy agreement to-date, a VPPA that will support the development of a wind farm in Oklahoma which will provide enough green energy for our entire North America electricity usage, and the completion of a 1.4 MW ground-mounted solar array at our Melville campus in New York. The company is also working towards its commitment to set science-based targets to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions within ELC’s own operations and across its value chain which will further demonstrate the dedication and effectiveness of ELC’s climate-related initiatives in the coming years.

“We anticipate that these initiatives, along with other climate-related projects underway, will enable The Estée Lauder Companies to further reduce its impact on the environment and drive actions towards a more sustainable world,” said Greg Polcer, Executive Vice President, Global Supply Chain at The Estée Lauder Companies.
