The Science of Skin Care: ELC Scientists Shine at WCD 2023

At the World Congress of Dermatology in Singapore, ELC shared new preclinical and clinical findings in skin care research.

Company Feature

Following a successful International Societies of Investigative Dermatology Meeting earlier this year, scientists at The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) recently presented new preclinical and clinical findings spanning emerging research areas that support skin health and longevity at the 25th Annual World Congress of Dermatology (WCD) in Singapore. Held every 4 years, the WCD provides a venue for specialists from around the world to showcase new knowledge in skin care science, exchange clinical experiences and scientific research in dermatology, and build professional and personal networks and collaborations. This year, the conference brought together ELC and several of its brands for a number of insightful presentations and activations with leading scientists, dermatologists, media, and influencers.

ELC Scientists Present Latest in Skin Care Research

Scientists from across ELC’s Clinical Sciences and Bioscience teams and ELC’s brand laboratories—including Estée Lauder Research Laboratories, Clinique Laboratories, and La Mer’s Max Huber Research Labs—presented a number of digital posters that showcase scientific innovation across emerging areas of skin aging. Learn more about these presentations and their findings.

Estée Lauder Hosts “Sirtuins and Longevity” Symposium

The Estée Lauder brand proudly hosted a symposium featuring Nadine Pernodet, PhD, Senior Vice President, Bioscience, and Danica Chen, PhD, Professor, Metabolic Biology, Nutritional Sciences & Toxicology, University of California, Berkeley. During the symposium, the pair discussed the latest research on sirtuins, or “longevity proteins.” Dr. Chen shared key research on the relationship between these longevity factors and the hallmarks of aging, and Dr. Pernodet discussed the role these proteins play in youthful skin. These insights continue to inform how we develop products and the approaches that slow or reverse visible aging in skin.

ELC Brands Celebrate at the WCD

The conference also provided an opportunity for several of ELC’s leading brands to host top dermatologists, influencers, and media and showcase their individual areas of expertise in skin care science.

  • To further deepen the brand’s authority in sirtuin research, the Estée Lauder brand hosted a dining experience where top-tier media, influencers, and professional guests had the opportunity to learn more about the heritage and scientific journey of the Estée Lauder Re-Nutriv franchise, a collection of products inspired by skin longevity science. Guests were also invited to experience Re-Nutriv firsthand by indulging in luxury facial services.
  • Clinique, one of the first dermatologist-developed prestige beauty brands, gathered top-tier media and key opinion leaders from Singapore and China for an exclusive daytime media session and top dermatologists from around the world for an exclusive evening fireside chat and cocktail event. Attendees were provided with an in-depth look at the latest breakthrough research, immersed in Clinique’s derm heritage and expertise, and learned about the innovation behind Clinique Smart Clinical Repair™ Wrinkle Correcting Serum.
  • La Mer celebrated the heritage of Miracle Broth™, originally developed by Dr. Max Huber more than 50 years ago through unique bio-fermentation, and presented new clinical results at the conference that showed Miracle Broth’s anti-irritation activities on skin. At La Mer’s exclusive event, guests found themselves immersed in a kelp forest, a virtual reimagining of the undersea world that inspires La Mer. This experience was further enriched by a reimagining of the brand’s laboratories, where attendees were invited to explore the craftsmanship and science behind Miracle Broth™.
