May 24, 2016 -- The Estée Lauder Companies proudly recognizes employees who have demonstrated exceptional service to their communities in unique and impactful ways through the Fifth Leonard A. Lauder Volunteer of the Year Awards. This year employees were honored from across the Company’s various geographic regions for their outstanding volunteerism in support of child health, poverty reduction and suicide prevention, among other areas.

The recipients of the Fifth Leonard A. Lauder Volunteer of the Year Awards are:

  • Herminia (Emin) Ilao, Brand Coordinator, M∙A∙C Cosmetics, Philippines, for her work to end poverty for families through a program that focuses on restoration of dignity and productivity of those in need.
  • María Sofía Tiscareño Barreras, Business Manager, Finance, Mexico, for her work to raise the spirits of children with life-threatening diseases by making their biggest dreams in life become a reality.
  • Erik Arveseth, Senior Manager, Global Education, Aveda, United States, for his work preventing suicide and bringing hope to those affected by suicide.
  • Sam Leaverland, Manager, Corporate Tax & Treasury, UK Estée Lauder Cosmetics Limited, for her efforts to rally colleagues in the UK and Ireland to volunteer to benefit children in need.
  • Global Information Services Team, accepted by Denise Clark, Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer, for the function’s collective efforts to support multiple nonprofits and causes through an annual Day of Service globally.

The Awards were given to employees during a ceremony at the Company’s global headquarters in New York City. In recognition of each honoree, a donation of $5,000 or the local equivalent is made to the primary nonprofit organization that they support.

Leonard A. Lauder, Chairman Emeritus, stated, “One of the great joys of living is the joy of giving. I applaud these amazing employees for giving their time, energy and passion to make a difference. I encourage our employees and people everywhere to do whatever they can to help improve the lives of others.”

The Leonard A. Lauder Volunteer of the Year Awards — first introduced in 2010 — were founded upon Mr. Lauder’s beliefs in the power of volunteerism and that one person can make a difference. Mrs. Estée Lauder founded the Company on the belief that it is only as strong, healthy, educated, and diverse as the communities in which it operates.

“We are extremely proud to celebrate these exceptional individuals,” said Nancy Mahon, Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability. “We believe we can harness the learnings from their leadership to further deepen The Estée Lauder Companies’ impact in the communities where we live and work.”
