ELC Joins the Renewable Energy 100 Campaign and Co-Sponsors Climate Week 2017

Today, on the first day of Climate Week 2017, we are proud to reinforce our commitment to a low-carbon future by joining Renewable Energy 100 (RE100) and co-sponsoring this year’s Climate Week. By supporting Climate Week and signing on to RE100, we are underscoring our commitment to climate action and sourcing 100 percent of our global electricity consumption from renewable energy technologies.
Leading partnerships such as RE100 will help us to build on our longstanding commitments in environmental sustainability.
In June of this year, we stood with cities, states, NGOs and businesses across the United States by pledging to work together in order to ensure a healthier and safer world for all through the #WeAreStillIn Campaign. Additionally, in 2016, we made an important pledge to work towards net zero emissions by the year 2020. We have continued working towards our goal by improving the efficiency of our operations and investing in clean and renewable energy.
At the employee café in our Melville, New York facility, we’ve cut annual kilowatt consumption by two-thirds, solid waste by 60 percent and utility costs by more than $54,000 by converting cooking equipment to natural gas, replacing some conventional lighting with LEDs and installing more energy-efficient equipment. At our largest U.K. manufacturing facility, Whitman Laboratories, we have implemented remote, Wi-Fi-enabled monitoring of the energy consumption of our equipment, and the system has already enabled the savings of hundreds of thousands of kilowatt hours and tens of thousands of dollars annually.
In addition to our corporate initiatives, our brands volunteer for, raise and donate millions of dollars to organizations focused on protecting the earth. These efforts support a multitude of causes, including Earth Month, clean water projects and tree planting programs.
